The type of flooring you choose has a huge impact on the attractiveness of the area in which it is used. Choosing the right flooring for a particular room may seem like a difficult decision. We hope to make it easier for you by listing out a few factors you should focus on.

  • Appearance: The color, patterns and texture of the flooring should match the use of the area. Eg, white marble may not be the best choice for your kitchen. Areas which are exposed to the elements should have a slightly rough texture in order to ensure a non-slip surface in any weather.
  • Comfort: The floor surface should not be noisy or slippery.
  • Ease of cleaning: Ease of maintenance and the cost of cleaning should also be factored into your purchase decision.
  • Durability: This links back to the ease of cleaning. Any surface that requires very specific and regular maintenance is not a good fit for a high volume area, eg, the entryway of a house.
  • Safety: The safety of guests and occupants should be considered. Fire-resistant and slip-resistant surfaces should be selected.

In our experience, a little preventive care goes a long way towards cutting down the overall cleaning costs, while increasing the usable lifespan of your new flooring. Dust tends to build up under furniture and along its edges. If you maintain a little open space around the furniture, it will be easier to clean. Thoroughly clean up spills when they happen so that stains don’t have an opportunity to seep into the material.

Useful tip: For hardwood floors, use a dry towel to soak up spills and then clean the spot with warm water.
